METROLOGY ROOM

The Metrology Room is the answer to the need to perform accurate calibrations, measurements and mechanical processing in controlled environments at precise temperatures as close as possible to 20°C, through the use of cutting-edge technology and with maximum attention to achieving the objectives required by the customer, including from an aesthetic standpoint.

The metrology rooms can be of different sizes and different classes: I, II and III.
According to standard ISO 1, for dimensional measurements in the metrology sector, temperature is the crucial element in terms of results of the measurements: in fact, 20°C is the reference temperature for the geometric specifications of the parts.

The air-conditioning system must also comply with accuracy requirements, especially for three-dimensional measuring machines (cmm). In this regard, the standard specifies that it is not necessary that all calibrations, measurements for part

acceptance checks and machining must be carried out at the reference temperature, but points out that, in the case of dimensional measurements, a temperature other than the reference temperature may lead to the need to apply an offset or correction to the measurement result, thus contributing to greater uncertainty in the overall measurement.
Consequently, acceptable limits of temperature variation, in other words temporal and spatial gradients according to one’s own measurement needs, should be established in order to determine how far the temperature can deviate from 20°C during measurement or test activities without being excessively penalising in terms of measurement uncertainty.

For these reasons, it is absolutely necessary that the air conditioning system, while allowing temperature variations within the set limits, is able to control temperature and possibly humidity with a fine triple-stage control in order to have an average temperature value as close as possible to the desired value.

Example:

Limits of variation for temperature: 20 ± 0,1°C;
Limits of variation for relative humidity: 45 + 10 %;
Spatial thermal gradient: ≤ 0,5 °C/m;
Temporal thermal gradient: ≤ 0,5 °C/h – 1 °C/day;
